If the time change takes place this weekend, Netflix has been in Spanish time for a while now. Following the success of La Casa de Papel and Elite, the platform announced that it has ordered 7 more original Spanish titles. Fantasy series, mini-series on the Barcelona and Cambrils bombings, documentary, horror film… This is what awaits us.

After the mad success of La Casa de Papel and Elite, Netflix unveiled several Spanish series including Toy Boy in February 2020, Valeria last May, or more recently Someone must die, with Ester Exposito. It is not finished: the platform continues in its lineage as it has commissioned 7 new original Spanish productions.

7 Spanish original series and films coming soon on Netflix

Among them, Feria, by the creator of Elite Carlos Montero. This fantasy series follows two sisters, Eva y Sofía, as they try to understand why their missing parents are accused of killing 23 people during a cult ritual in Andalusia in the 1990s. Also featured is El Tiempo Que te doy, which tells the story of Lina and Nico’s (Álvaro Cervantes) romantic break-up in 10 episodes of 10 minutes each; Ídolo, a dramatic series about a fan who adopts the character of his idol, a great star of Spanish music who dies tragically in the middle of a concert; the comedy Odio with Dani Rovira; or La Bestia, a horror film by David Casademunt about a family isolated from the rest of society, whose peaceful life is about to be turned upside down by a terrifying creature who tests the ties that bind them together.

But for when?

On the documentary side, the mini-series 800 Metros looks back at the attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils on August 17, 2017, and the film El Caso Wanninkhof about the assassination of Rocío Wanninkhof and Sonia Carabantes in Spain. The goal: “to continue to fascinate the world with the charisma, diversity, and creativity of stories from Spain, and to help keep Spanish fiction in its place as an international reference point,” explained Diego Ávalos, vice president of Netflix Spain, who then announced even more Spanish productions: “By the end of the year, we will have unveiled 17 original titles that show a great variety“. Series that should be released by 2021…
