Riverdale, Sex Education, Game of Thrones… In many series, fans imagined some characters in couple with others. Except that sometimes these relationships never existed on screen, despite the viewers’ expectations. So here are some examples of romances that Internet users would have liked to see on the screen.
Veronica and Chuck (Riverdale)
Veronica Lodge (Camila Mendes) and Chuck (Jordan Calloway) from Riverdale have already had a date, that’s right. But it didn’t end well… While they had a good time and exchanged a kiss, the next day the high school student slut-shamed on his date. As a result, Veronica didn’t go out with him, of course, but she took revenge with the help of her friend Betty Cooper (Lili Reinhart).
Otis and Maeve (Sex Education)
Since the first episode of Sex Education on Netflix, fans have been hoping for a love story between Otis (Asa Butterfield) and Maeve (Emma Mackey). But are they going to end up getting together as a couple instead of turning around and going out with other people? Will they finally get together in season 3? The actress who plays Maeve had confessed to Popbuzz : “You know, to be honest, I’m more pro Maeve-Aimée than Maeve-Otis”, because “I think both this boy and this girl need to grow up a little on their own. They need to understand what’s going on in their lives. Of course they care about each other and it’s really sweet and touching to see. But I think they need to grow a little bit on their own first.
Sansa Stark and Theon Greyjoy (Game of Thrones)
Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) has no real luck in love in Game of Thrones. Many would have hoped to see her with Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen), who, like her, has suffered atrocious physical and psychological abuse. When they meet again in season 8, many already imagined the characters ending up together. But they end up alone, each on their own.
Beth and Daryl (The Walking Dead)
Between Beth (Emily Kinney) and Daryl (Norman Reedus), there was a certain chemistry. Unfortunately, they didn’t get together, the hero of The Walking Dead being a loner at heart despite his attraction for Beth and the latter ending up dead. But fans still think about the romance that could have happened. On Twitter, AMC recently asked who Daryl’s soul mate was, and many said it was Beth. Others, however, think it’s his dog.
Meredith and McWidow (Grey’s Anatomy)
The tension is palpable between Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Cormac Hayes alias McWidow (Richard Flood) in Grey’s Anatomy. And as we know, from hate to love, there is only one step. Especially in the series! So when the fans saw the elevator scene, they thought that the heroine could forget about DeLuca for the sexy widower. And obviously, they might be right since the widower finally asked Meredith to go for a drink with him. So, more to follow.
Bonnie and Damon (The Vampire Diaries)
Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) was irremediably attracted to Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) in The Vampire Diaries. But before he ended up in a couple with the one who looked just like his ex Katherine, many fans would have liked to see him with Bonnie Bennet (Kat Graham). Because yes, between the vampire and Elena’s BFF, there were sparks. And clearly, their misunderstanding and friendship would have given something nice to see on the screen.
Scott and Lydia (Teen Wolf)
Scott (Tyler Posey) could never have dated Lydia (Holland Roden) in Teen Wolf. The werewolf would never have done that to his best friend Stiles (Dylan O’Brien). And yet, for a while, that’s what the viewers were hoping for. Especially since Lydia is attracted to Scott and makes no secret of it. She even goes so far as to kiss him once he is separated from Allison. Except that the teen doesn’t feel the same way about her. As for the “Stydia” couple, Holland Roden revealed at Showtime Con 2 in Madrid that it all started when Dylan O’Brien didn’t stick to the original script. He improvised by kissing his co-star on the cheek.
Lucas and Haley (The Scott Brothers)
Lucas Scott (Chad Michael Murray) and Haley James Scott (Bethany Joy Lenz) were best friends in One Tree Hill aka The Scott Brothers. Except that many fans would have wanted their friendship to go further before he got involved with Brooke or Payton. But Haley ended up happy with Lucas’ brother.
Brooke and Nathan (The Scott Brothers)
Same with Brooke Davis (Sophia Bush) and Nathan Scott (James Lafferty) of the Scott Brothers. Some would have liked to see them together. And that almost happened since they slept together one night (the night of the sextape). Except that by the next day it was clear that these two would not try anything on the love front.
Paris and Jess (Gilmore Girls)
Paris Geller (Liza Weil) and Jess Mariano (Milo Ventimiglia) couldn’t stand each other in Gilmore Girls. But one night, they started talking with friends at Rory’s (Alexis Bledel) house. During this evening, which she was to spend alone, Rory had seen her boyfriend Dean (Jared Padalecki) arrive, jealous of her relationship between friendship and attraction with Jess. So, the high school girl had pretended that Paris wanted to go out with Jess and that’s why the party was planned. A lie that had given the viewers ideas. Except that Jess and Rory always seem to be attracted to each other, even in the last revival season available on Netflix.
Lilly and Jackson (Hannah Montana)
Lilly (Emily Osment) and Jackson (Jason Earles) were Hannah’s (Miley Cyrus) BFFs in Hannah Montana. And many fans of the series pictured them together. The writers made them happy by writing their love story… in Hannah’s dream. And yes, it was only in their friend’s imagination.
Monica and Joey (Friends)
Monica Geller (Courteney Cox) and Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc) in Friends were enjoying themselves. From the moment they met, their attraction to each other was clear. Then, later, fans will learn that at Ross (David Schwimmer) and Emily (Helen Baxendale)’s wedding in London, it was Joey that Monica wanted to sleep with when she walked into the room, not Chandler. It is finally with the latter that she will marry. But her relationship with Joey, which never happened, was highlighted in an episode that imagined how they would have ended if they had gotten together: and it ends with fat Joey.
Phoebe and Joey (Friends)
Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow) and Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc) could also have paired up in Friends, that would have pleased the fans as well. But co-creator David Crane explained to Metro, “It would have been too clean, too complete if they had ended up together. When your goal is to keep all six characters in each of the stories, it’s really easy to go down that road. But we all felt it would be a mistake. So they were very careful: “Because we had done Ross and Rachel, we had to give Monica and Chandler another set of challenges. And so their whole journey, from the way they got together as a couple to the birth of their babies had to be different.
Barney and Lily (How I Met Your Mother)
Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) and Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan), it’s a couple that would have pleased the viewers of How I Met Your Mother ! Between the charo in a suit and the crazy artist, it would have made quite a couple.
Phoebe and Dan (Charmed)
Phoebe Halliwell (Alyssa Milano) and Dan Gordon (Greg Vaughan), Charmed fans dreamed of it. But neighbor BG was in a relationship with his sister, Piper (Holly Mary Combs). Which disappointed more than one!
Joyce and Rupert (Buffy Against Vampires)
Joyce Summer (Kristine Sutherland) and Rupert Giles (Anthony Stewart Head) could have had a great love story in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They were probably the oldest people on the show, and they could have gotten along famously. But Buffy’s teacher and mother didn’t make the first move. The only time they were together was during an episode when they pretended to be a couple. And frankly, you’d think they would have been happy!
Dean and Castiel (Supernatural)
For years, viewers thought that Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) and Castiel (Misha Collins) could end up together in Supernatural. Their bond is deep, as Castiel himself said, and it was Castiel who saved Dean from perdition. A potential romance that would have been nice to see.
Betty and Daniel (Ugly Betty)
Betty Suarez (America Ferrera) helps Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius) throughout the episodes of Ugly Betty. But the assistant and the magazine’s editor remain friends, despite fans’ expectations. In any case, this is one of the versions because, as a reminder, the end of the last episode leaves doubt about their relationship: will they finally get together or stay friends? We’ll never know.
Phyllis and Stanley (The Office)
Phyllis Vance (Phyllis Smith) and Stanley Hudson (Leslie David Baker) in The Office, it’s a nice friendly relationship. But clearly, the fans would have liked to see them get together. They support each other no matter what happens, make each other laugh, even go as far as dancing together one day… In short, it would have been a perfect couple.
Catherine and Gil (The Experts)
Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) and Gil Grissom (William Petersen) could have gotten together. Many viewers of the Experts even admitted that they would have preferred this couple to the one formed by Gil Grissom and Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox). But the screenwriters decided otherwise.
